AMskills Featured in Tampa Tribune

June 27, 2015 | AMskills is featured in the news once again, this time in the Tampa Tribune. The article talks about the AMskills program and the benefits the German-Style Manufacturing training program will bring to the Tampa Bay region.

Here's an excerpt from the article:

"Pasco County Commissioner Kathryn Starkey has been working for years to bring the program to fruition. Starkey paid her own expenses to travel to Germany to research the apprenticeship model, and to Charlotte, North Carolina, to see an American program that already has helped that state attract manufacturing jobs."

"Starkey said the Tampa Bay program goes beyond other U.S. apprenticeship programs because it will be the first to offer the highest level of professional certification to students. Student apprentices will begin at age 16, as juniors in high school. Upon completion of the four-year program, the student apprentices will earn a two-year college degree — debt free — at a local state college and will have obtained both international and U.S. industry recognized certifications in advanced manufacturing. Participating industries are sponsoring the apprentices and paying the students hourly wages."
